The North East Regional Marketplace Initiative
Posted on Sep 22, 200513th September 2005 - The North East Centre of Excellence (NECE) is committed to building on existing good practice in the region, to support collaborative working and to support the aims of the Efficiency Review and the National Procurement Strategy. Promoting e-procurement best practice and establishing a collaborative environment have been identified as priority workstreams by the NECE. As a result, the NECE has engaged UKprocure Systems and IDeA:marketplace to investigate the feasibility of a unified electronic marketplace solution for Public Sector Buyers and their Suppliers in the North East Region.
The NECE has commissioned the project as UKprocure Systems and IDeA:marketplace have established themselves as the UK’s largest Public Sector electronic marketplace solutions. In the North East alone, the two marketplaces have 41 existing Buyer customers across Local Government and the NHS transacting with several thousand local, regional and national suppliers..
The aim of the project is to establish a framework under which a single North East Regional Marketplace can be created through interoperability between the two marketplaces. Throughout the project detailed consultation will take place with relevant stakeholders, which include representatives from Local Government, Health Trusts and the Emergency Services. The project will conclude by December 2005.
The anticipated benefits of this approach are that:
- Buyers will gain access to a wider supplier trading community and significantly increased opportunities for collaborative working.
- Suppliers will benefit from a single point of entry for trading electronically with buying organisations using either the UKprocure Systems or IDeA:marketplace. This will include a common approach to catalogue management, purchase order and invoice processing.
“As our mission in IDeA:marketplace is to bring the best solutions to the local public sector community, we are fully committed to making this initiative work” states Ian Busby, the CEO of EGS Ltd, the provider of IDeA:marketplace.
“We are very enthusiastic about an initiative that will increase benefits and minimise duplication for both buyers and suppliers.” comments Shish Lal, the CEO of UKprocure Systems, “We are pleased to be working with the NECE on this important collaborative project for the North East region and as a model for other areas in the UK”.
